LECTURE: TV Systems and Signals
0Today we looked at satellites and how the play a key role in the world of broadcasting as well as the rest of the communication and location markets. The Astra group of satellites are the main group in operation for Broadcasting use in Europe.
LECTURE: Broadcast Technology
0The first Broadcast Tech lecture of the unit and it should be an interesting unit, designed to give us a basic overview of the technologies and some processes behind Broadcasting. For this unit we have joined together with Digi Film, Editing and Operations courses, this is to provide them with a base level of knowledge of what we do, to make it work for them.
LECTURE: IPP
0This IPP lecture was a bit different than the others as it was with James Uren, one of our Broadcast Tech course Leaders. This made this session much more interesting and much more relevant to our corse and how the principles, we have been taught in the other IPP sessions, are used in a number of Broadcast Engineering environments.
LECTURE: IPP
0Presentation and Communication skills both, crucial for this industry, if your not a clear communicator or team worker you wont get much work in this industry. Communication is more important than technical ability in most roles, if you cannot clearly communicate the problem to another team worker, they cannot assist you through the situation.
Presentations skills are also key to getting work, as how you present yourself to a future employer is critical, as they say first impressions last. Presentations skills are also key for Producers and Operations students, when pitching there ideas to networks, and financiers.
PROJECT: Sarah Louise Ings – Live Lounge
0Last friday I was asked to work on this new “Live Lounge” shoot with Ben Blake, for Sarah Louise Ings. For this shoot i was asked to assist light a 30 piece orchestra in the tiny studio at Ravensbourne. When I arrived in the morning and was shown the floor plan, I immediately started to make changes to the lighting rig to cope with the number of performers it needed to cover.
The rig finally consisted of:
- 8 x 1k Fresnel’s
- 3 x 2k Fresnel’s
- 4 x 575w Profiles
- 4 x Mac 250 Entours
- 4 x Parcan’s
The shoot went well after a shaky start, we had some problems with blown lamps and damaged sockets, restricting out pantograph positions, and also the available lighting stock. I’m happy with the outcome of the of the day, and some of the effect created, photo’s to follow.
